Beautiful entry. BEAUTIFUL ENTRY. It's really just a strong and sound editing masterpiece. We do have one note to make (at length below), and may we say now that at this stage of the contest, surrounded by such skilled editors, we have to be very nit-picky now. So below is our nit-pick about your video. But do not be discouraged, because in all honesty it is our one note about your video. Otherwise, it's rather flawless.
We mentioned this to another editor that had a similar issue with their entry. Be careful with including text in your video as a storytelling device. It's not that it's wrong or weak - because it's not. In fact, text can be a BEAUTIFUL storytelling device for an editor, particularly if your don't have voiceovers. But if your text is hard to read because it's: a. white text on a light or complicated/patterned BG, b. too fast, or c. too much text with too little time to read and also watch the video beneath - then the text becomes more distracting than beneficial. Make sure you include enough time for the audience to read the text without have to stop it every five seconds and pause to read it. It's distracting and also detracts from the actual video/story. In contrast to this, though, the one point where you text was hard to read but it was obviously on purpose and it worked really well for you was when you used the black text in the middle all jumbled on top of each other to portray memories - that was beautifully done! Although later, when it's one line of black text at a time on dark BGs, and fast, it becomes distracting and hard to read. Because more often than not we were trying to keep up with your text, we often times got lost in your story and had a hard time of keeping up with what was going on and the actual footage you were using (we'd miss whole chunks of footage because we were that focused on the text). This is, honestly, our biggest note about your entry, and incidentally, the weakest aspect of this video. It was very, very hard to keep up with. The text is a huge driving force of the story. You need the text to understand what's going on, and it's too hard to keep up with at the speed it comes and goes in the video.
You did a beautiful job of selecting footage that portrays actions and expressions and emotions to tell your story. Beautiful job. And because you used similar fandoms with similar styles - everything, for the most part, looked believable! Nicely done! You also have beautiful coloring and beautiful flow and in general, the actual technical aspects of your video are pretty tight and clean! This video is very strong and beautiful! We're honored to count it among the ICT competition, and we are very, very happy to announce that you are one of the three finalist moving onto the last chapter of our competition!
