One thing we loved, first off, was the fact that you edited in first person. It was a twist that none of us saw coming, and we believe that it definitely showcases your creativity and willingness to go above and beyond - to push yourself; and we love seeing that in our contestant's work. Your video was beautiful. You chose a lovely song that gorgeously complimented the story that you wove. All in all, your piece is quite lovely and riveting. We adored the psychological aspects you slipped into the video, particularly with Atlas. Additionally, we commend your use of Elizabeth's POV shots from Burial at Sea. They gave you a lot more choices and visuals to work with; all of which deepened the story.
Now at this stage of the contest, we have to be extraordinarily nit-picky, because the three finalists (you three!) are three of the best of the best! We have to look at everything very critically if we have any hope of choosing the winner. That said, there is one thing that stood out to us about your piece.
While we loved the way you deeply analyzed Booker and Elizabeth's story, this felt more like a tribute to a story that already exists (Bioshock) rather than a story unique to yourself. That said, we absolutely loved the techniques you used to do it. The first person POV and the lovely transitions that really just added SO MUCH DYNAMIC to the flow, and the visuals you selected - and let's not forget, the lovely psychology you added; all of that added so much to your entry. But at the end of the day, all of the judges unanimously felt that this felt more like a tribute to Bioshock Infinite rather than a story video crafted from a story of your own making. That isn't to say your entry is not lovely, because it is. But one large aspect of the tournament is to take characters from stories that already exist and manipulate them to make completely new stories. And we felt that this relied more upon the origin story and less upon a story of your own making, unfortunately.
We had a few other nit-picks (such as the fact that we had to pause to read the letter or photograph, and thus we were pulled out of the "moment") (Jump cuts at 2:52 slightly jarring) - these were the only issues we found. Your video is beautiful, it truly is. But as said before, we must peel these entries apart in judging in order to find our winner. That said, we would first like to restate the positives. Your coloring, visuals, flow - and additionally, the way you laid everything out as far as "storyboarding" goes, all of that was completely well done! We loved your innovative approach to this final round with the POV and psychology, and as a whole, just absolutely loved the video.
However, there can only be one winner. With much regret, we must now inform you that your entry has not been selected as the winner of Season 3. We have loved watching you and your progress throughout the tournament, however, and we know that you will make more great videos (and very much look forward to watching them!) - so don't stop being awesome. Thank you so much for your participation. It was great having you.
