No Other Way
Starstruckbromance
Nice job of choosing characters with similar environments (such as Balthier and Snow at the beach) to portray easily that the two could believably be in the same universe! I mean, you used so many fandoms - and none of them looked out of place! This is one of the strongest aspects of your video and it really makes it stand out in the crowd! You made a beautiful and strong crossover video here! And without masking! That's a difficult feat, but you are proof that it is not impossible, and that's something to be very proud of!
At times, it is hard to read your text. Whether it be because the BG is too light with the white text or because the text itself fades to quickly - it is important to make sure that if you use text in your video in order to portray story narration or actual conversation between characters, that it is easy to read for the viewer because it takes time to read. If it's too quick, the viewer either misses it, or spends more time trying to read it than paying attention to the actual footage beneath the text. It was also hard to tell who was saying what. Try to keep the character's quotes specific to the character's clips, and try to write the dialogue in a way that's unique to the character. We don't mean font choice, we mean using diction to make the dialogue unique to the character. Think about how Balthier talks in the games and try to write in that style when making text for Balthier, for example. This was the most significant weakness of your video in our notes. We were, at times, trying so hard to follow your text that we lost where we were in the story and how the characters related to one another. We had to rewatch your video to understand it - and that's something a storyvid should avoid (the need of the audience to rewatch to understand). Strive to make it easy to understand so that audience can enjoy and comprehend it on the first go.
Your coloring slowly become inconsistent by the end of the video. That isn't including when it's on purpose with memories. The beginning has thick, dull, yellow overtones and by the end, the characters don't seem to have as consistent a coloring scheme (at times snow will look really yellow, then less yellow, then you cut to Balthier who has a green bg that doesn't fit, etc.) - be aware of your coloring and the environment of the characters. Be sure to unify them.
WE LOVED YOUR MUSIC CHOICE. IT WAS PERFECT FOR YOUR VIDEO. And you edited the flow of your video perfectly to it. Gorgeous job.
Despite the text issues and at times having trouble following the video - your video was gorgeous. To be blunt, it portrayed the emotions of their relationship beautifully, and by the end when Balthier returned a ghost, more than one judge noted that your editing and the reveal of that one moment made their breath catch, it was that beautiful and THAT well done! Like, heart stop - so beautifully. Easily our favorite part of your video. You did a wonderful job of avoiding talky face and using emotions and action to portray your story instead - which was FANTASTIC! All in all, this piece was a powerhouse of editing skills, and we are more than happy to tell you that you will be moving onto the next and final stage of the competition!
Best of luck!
But seriously, as a note from the Head Host of the competition, I can't get over how absolutely powerful the emotions of this video were - particularly in the last quarter. A personal kudos to you, this was beautiful.
