This was an absolutely beautiful entry. By far, it has been one of the judges' favorite entries to date out of all the seasons of the tournament. As always, we would like to say that a huge part of scoring for the judges' is that we first watch the video without reading the description. This is, as we have said in the past, in an effort to see how well the editor communicated their story through their work rather than through their description. While we were a little confused in the beginning, you found a way to take a complicated story and very clearly tell it's story visually without the need of the description. By the end of the video, all of the judges felt that they understood the story (even if they were initially confused). This confusion came from the b&w flashbacks that later absolutely made this story so much more powerful because of what they stood for. The emotional depth to this story doubled with the characterization and personality you managed to imbibe really made this one powerhouse of an entry. You took characters that we all know and love and managed to create a completely different side to them that completely cast them all into a new light without directly conflicting with their original sources. That is to say, you made characters that already existed and managed to make completely new characters out of them. Diverse, complicated characters. That's incredibly difficult to do with characters that are so popular! We didn't see Hope from Final Fantasy XII. We saw a young, ambitious prince ready to do whatever he needed to in order to get the crown. We didn't see the surly, young Asche from XII. We saw a powerful, well-loved young woman who died before her time. They felt like completely new characters. Bravo.
One thing that we particularly loved was how you created a strong female character that really portrayed a lot of power and humility. She was the sort of character that we would love to see Square Enix actually use in one of their games.
Additionally, our favorite aspect of your video by far is the use of the b&w flashbacks. Not only did they portray Noel's instability, but they also shed a complicated depth to his and Asche's relationship. The flashbacks also served to showcase Noel's thinking and mind in an incredibly real and immersing way for the audience. In general, this video - it's colors, it's flow, it's visual, it's manipulations and effects - all of it; it's just an absolutely wonderful piece.
