One thing we love about this particular challenge is just how creative the editors get with not only the words/themes they choose, but in how they carve a story with them. You created a story that we never could have seen coming, and we absolutely loved it! We also loved how unique your entry was, particularly with your use of visual effects and hand-tailored computer graphic simulations! It was a unique and one-of-a-kind way to tell the story you were trying to tell without having the mask, and you did a fantastic job.
One note of critique we had was that if we hadn't read the description, we never would have guessed Dante was a thief. A bit of time in the beginning to show the audience his profession would have eliminated this problem so that you wouldn't have to rely on the description to portray backstory. You did include the news/terrorist bit though, so that was good. You did show thief like tendencies later (when you focus on the jewelry in the middle especially) but we wouldn't have guessed it until then and that particular bit of information is important to know in the beginning.
FIVE THOUSAND FLOWERS OF CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU for that beautiful graphic of Dante holding up the necklace to the baby's grasping hands. It BEAUTIFULLY portrayed how his life and his growing love for the child were both so strong in that moment, how his worlds were blending, and it was just a beautiful and tactful bit of editing and storytelling mastery to include. LOVELY.
Wonderful job in using Thief clips without showing Garrett's face in order to portray Dante's profession. Stunning and subtle and very well done.
Two things that stood out to us is that Vergil sounds more significant in the description than he actually ends up appearing and being portrayed in the video. We would have liked to have seen more of him. Additionally, we wish that you had used a clip of a guard and not an assassin for the party bit since assassin's are so distinct and recognizable, making that clip choice jarring. If we hadn't read the description, we would have been confused by the sudden appearance of an assassin for 4 seconds.
Nice use of DMC trailer with the prison scene!
We would have liked to have seen a bit more resolution at the end, but as a whole, the coloring/flow/story/technicality of this video was absolutely beautiful and masterfully done. We couldn't be more honored to have you as a contestant. Your entry was lovely and we are overjoyed to say that you shall be continuing onto the final phase of the contest! Best of luck in the finals!
