Secret Ghost
LightningNoire
Your video is VERY EASY TO FOLLOW and that is a HUGE strength to your entry! Kudos, because that is not an easy thing to do. We did not need the description to follow your story, and that's a major plus on your entry! This video is very, very well done from a story stand point. You did a great job of choosing clips to portray your story clearly and effectively. Because of the stage we are at in the competition, we as judges have to be VERY nit-picky, so do not be discouraged about our notes below! Your video is very gorgeous and you did a great job.
One of our notes is about your coloring. At the beginning, it's obvious that you want the ghosts to be blue, but we felt this would have been better if you had just had the actual ghost/character blue and not their BG (such as 0:45) since you do have a clip with ghost lightning looking at her body and the ghost is the only blue part. Additionally, we would have liked to have seen lightning's body and the BG to be in color to portray life, etc., since B&W/brown filter usually makes it look like the past. This goes on throughout. We would have liked to have seen some color. You do start to just make only lightning blue towards the middle and end of the video - and this works really nicely! But make sure when you pick a technique like that, you stick to it every single time! Lightning and Genesis should ALWAYS be cut out and haloed in blue with a B/W BG. This is not always true, and it's distracting because of it. Additionally, as another note to making the present in color, you DO have shots of the past at the end and they are also in B/W, which makes them blur with the present. The present and past should be colored differently so they are easy to tell the difference between. You DID have a sparkly overlay - but we barely recognized that. Coloring would have been a much more effective way to do that.
Also, be careful of your cookie cutter (that's what we assume it is) - because at times it isn't fully centered/proportioned on Lightning, and sometimes it doesn't follow her as well as it should when she moves. At one point we think you even forgot to cookie cutter Lightning's blue glow in completely (3:13/3:14).
Since you don't show a muzzleflare or the gun going off, and presumably cut to Snow's face when it DOES go off, the audio of a gunshot would have complimented the scene nicely and communicated to the audience more powerfully what happened.
This contest has been very, very competitive. As we said, because all of you are so good at what you do, we have had to be VERY nit-picky with our scoring this round. It was extremely hard to come to this decision, but only three editors may move onto the next and final stage of this competition, and unfortunately, we regret to inform you that you will not be moving on. Your entry was beautiful, and it was very, VERY close. It has been our honor to have you in this contest and to watch you grow throughout the rounds. We have loved watching your work.
We hope that you continue to grow and succeed in the days to come, and wish only the best for you! Thank you for participating!
